Clashnessie

It really is worth taking that longer route from Loch Assynt towards Lochinver (A837,B869), instead of cutting it short via A894 to Kyletsu (30 miles vs. 5 miles) - or the other way around if driving anti-clockwise. Firstly, it’s one of the most scenic segments of the North Coast 500. Secondly, you get to see some nice places like Achmelvich, or Clashnessie.

Clashnessie is a small village en route and it’s where you will find a nice beach and a lovely waterfall, aptly named Clashnessie Beach and Clashnessie Waterfall.

Even though the waterfall is a mere 15m tall, it is a really pretty one. The beach is quite nice as well.

There is free parking available just by the beach, and from there it’s a 20min walk to the waterfall. I think there might be two paths to it. We took the one that is marked on Google Maps and follows the left shore. There are also signs for the waterfall around the village and you can easily see it from a distance.

Note that the walk to the waterfall, while flat, is very rough and boggy. It would be advised to come equipped with decent footwear - and expect it to get covered in mud.
