Boulevard Olímpico

The promenade Boulevard Olímpico is a relatively new attraction of Rio de Janeiro. The once derelict port area of the city has been recently revamped ahead of the Summer Olympics that took place in 2016. The project included a giant street mural and a brand new science museum, among other things.

Las Etnias

This stunning mural is the work of Eduardo Kobra, a famous Brazilian artist from São Paulo and one of the greatest muralists in the world. Kobra’s masterpiece adorns the side of an old warehouse and is 15m high and 170m long - the largest in the world!

The colourful mural showcases representatives of indigenous tribes from the five continents. The idea was to unite the five olympic rings and convey a message of peace and unity among all people.

As the sun shines bright over the city of Rio, this beautiful work slowly fades away and today, while still impressive, the mural is much less vibrant than it used to be.

Museu do Amanhã

While you’re there, make sure to check out Museu do Amanhã / Museum of Tomorrow, a science museum in a very futuristic building, opened at the end of 2015.
